Seniors healthier, more active than generations past

Retirement used to mean sitting at home, watching television, knitting, and playing Bingo.

Not anymore.

Seniors in today’s society are more energetic than people their age have ever been in the past, according to local senior experts.

Take Gunter Schlange of Farmington. At “82 years young,” this athletic senior regularly walks, hikes, and swims to stay in shape and tone his muscles. He was even named the 2009 “Swimmer of the Year” for his masters swim team, Modesto Area Aquatic Club.
